Rachel’s Favourite Spring Fabrics & What To Make With Them!

Hello everyone! And welcome to our first blog post. It is so exciting to have the blog up and running and we hope through it we will be able to bring you lots of inspiration for your crafting.

Firstly, I better introduce myself. I am Rachel, the Social Media Manager at Cotswold Sewing Centres and I will be writing the majority of these blog posts. If you get our newsletter or follow us on instagram and facebook you will have already been hearing from me quite a bit. And if you don’t get our newsletter or follow socials why on earth not? We have so much fun sharing crafty inspiration and keeping you all up to date on new stock, events, workshops and so much more so pop on over and give us a follow or sign up to our newsletter here.

Today I thought I would share with you some of my favourite new Spring fabrics that have recently come into the shop along with some ideas for what you could make with them.

  1. Swirly Ivy Double Gauze

Lets kick off with the fabric of the season shall we? Double gauze fabric is everywhere right now. Much like the cheesecloth of the 1970s, it is a gorgeous lightweight fabric with a lovely drape just perfect for warmer weather. We have it in five different colours so there is something to suit everyone. I think this fabric would be perfect for a breezey Saguaro Set by Friday pattern Company.  It would make the best swishy all in one outfit for those hot summer days!

2. Navy Daisy Cord

Its still a little chilly isn’t it? And it will probably stay like that for quite a while here in the UK. If you like to dress for Spring but can’t face the cold weather in a floaty dress yet why not try a lovely corduroy? Our new mini daisy cords are lightweight but still warm and come with a gorgeous ditsy print on them. We have them in navy and blue and they would be perfect for a pinafore dress like the Cleo from Tilly and the Buttons.

3. Light Olive Daisy Fields Cotton Jersey

Another warmer fabric for those chillier days would be a jersey. We’ve got a whole range of jerseys on the shop including this lovely daisy print with a pale olive background. This fabric comes in silver as well if green isn’t your thing. It would be great for t-shirts, pjs or dresses and I think it would work really well for a more relaxed version of the Estelle Dress by Sew Over It. You could even make the long sleeve version to stay extra cosy!

4. Marble Dream Viscose

This stunning marble viscose is one of my absolute favourites. I just love all the bright colours, it feels almost like an impressionist painting and it is even more beautiful in real life. Being a lightweight viscose you could use this for all sorts but I think it would make the perfect Zadie Jumpsuit from Paper Theory Patterns. A lovely way to brighten up your day!

And there you have my four favourites from the recent Spring Fabrics drop. There will of course be so much more coming so keep an eye out for all of that. As always we love to see your makes so please do share them with us on social media by tagging us on instagram or facebook. Happy making everyone!
